a wonderful distraction

a big thanks to our backyard neighbors in fremont for helping us outfit the baby's room. he's been able to focus and follow objects in the last couple of weeks, and the snoopy mobile has become a new favorite!

ggma's 89th birthday party

it was ggma fong marcos' 89th birthday party this past weekend... and it was a wonderful outdoor celebration with family and friends at the stratford.

ladies (and baby) lunch - may 26, 2009

we made an exception to the ladies' luncheon at neiman marcus' rotunda. we had a great time and gma fongo treated all of us to a really lovely afternoon.

new found freedom

we gave this a shot three weeks ago... mother's day actually. and poor dad didn't have much luck that day (it was mommy's day anyway).

so mommy gave it a shot, and strangely - baby chase took the bottle from me!

but we had a little bit of a "confusion" issue for the next couple of days, so we decided he was just too young still and decided to wait a few more weeks.

and the next time he got a bottle... he ate like a CHAMP when grandma fed him!

and daddy has his first successful feeding too, on may 26th.

so i'm trying to plan ahead these days, with a few bottles in the fridge on any given day. and soon enough, mommy and daddy will be able to have their first date night since baby chase was born 6 weeks ago :)

popo you

we had some very special little people come and visit baby chase. and all mm wanted to do was "popo you". and when she was holding baby chase in her arms, she continued to console him saying "it's alright, it's alright". it was a very sweet sight to take in. we're looking forward to many more visits and some play dates! and we want to send a special shout out to both k and mm for letting baby chase use all their cool stuff.

a BIG thank you to little la for letting baby chase borrow all of your safety gear, the toys, and more importantly the tips and tricks from your mom and dad.

we couldn't have done it without your help... and they wouldn't have even let us bring him home from the hospital without the car seat :).

and we love the portable crib/sleeper.

many more firsts - may 19, 2009

some good friends from work invited chase and i to lunch this week in san francisco. so we had many more firsts this week...

1) first outing in a public place!

2) first ride in the coolest stroller ever.

3) first time in the vicinity of mommy's work (note that we decided he's still too little for an office visit. we're going to wait a few more weeks).

it really was a great experience for us both, because it made me feel a whole lot more comfortable about being mobile. so - call me if you want to "do lunch"!

it was rm's birthday!

on the way home he told me he can't wait to meet more of you... especially uncle rh (that would be my boss)!

another doctor visit - one month; may 20, 2009

seems like we've been to the doctor's office quite a bit lately, but all for good reason and all to make sure that baby chase is growing nicely. and we're happy to report that all is well... he's a CHUB!


current stats: weight - 9lbs and 8ounces (yes, that means he has gained 3 pounds since birth) and length - 20inches. which means he is in the 42nd percentile in weight and 7 percentile in height. what can i say, he's JUST like his dad... a good eater, among other things he's really good at :).

it's HOT up in here!

standard uniform this past weekend - it was a hot one, so we had to stay cool.

chase is one month old today

it's hard to believe that just a month and one day ago, our lives were completely different. and at the same time, it's hard to imagine our lives any different than the way they are today.

jtp - one month in and he finally figured out the bouncy seat thing. LOVE IT. we got through an entire meal without a single cry.

and if you're wondering what a "typical day" looked like this past month...

6:30AM - baby chase wakes up for the morning feeding, and mommy and baby head downstairs to give daddy a few more hours of extra/uninterrupted sleep.

7:00AM - baby chase falls back asleep, mommy checks email or watches the news

8:30AM - time to eat again, diaper check

9:00AM - let's try the bjorn, mommy is able to do some stuff around the house hands free (i.e. sweep, laundry, more email, take out the trash).

9:30AM - daddy's usually up around this time, we make him some coffee and somtimes some breakfast

10:00AM - daddy takes over baby duty for a few hours

10:30AM - feedin' time, diaper duty... back to dad

11:00-12PM - we usually get a good nap in here (mommy lately too), and mornings are usually "less fussy" than evenings

AND all of this repeats itself many more times during the 24 hour cycle... infused with some crying, lots of feeding, pooping and peeing and or course sleeping (mostly for baby that is). the tough times usually happen around 6-10PM and between 2-4AM. but the awake/alert times (sans crying) have been occuring much more frequently this last week, and baby chase has made a friend... his best friend "the fan". he LOVES to stare up at the fan. so we're hoping that k and mm can teach him to sign "fan", just as soon as he's old enough.

reflections for mom

just a big shout out to my mom... because, i've only been doing this for a month so far - and i have a completely new, wide-eyed respect for her as my mom and mother of four kids.

thank you for enduring the sleeplessness, giving us your constant attention, showering us with unconditional love, and for always having the best intentions.

love you lots and lots.

a visit from uncle jb

they come from far and wide to visit baby chase. he is quite a draw, ya know...

first, they had a conversation to get to know one another. and uncle jb had quite a few helpful tips and tricks for the new mommy and daddy. we feel confident in his abilities to baby sit, and will be adding him to the rotation in the months to come.

and although these pictures made us a bit skeptical... because, we still aren't sure if that's baby chase's "mommy rescue me" face or not...

they had another day together to get used to each other. but we think it still might take a few more visits for them to really get used to each other.

a visit to the great grandparents new digs

just a couple of snapshots with the ggparents at their new apartment. they moved into a cool new spot a couple weekends ago, and we got to go visit them in their new home.

ok, so it was more about the people than the digs. but it was a good outing, and one of our very first day trips.

four weeks... already?!

notice there are no pics of mom and dad in this weekly review. that's because, if you DID see us... you would know that we've are going on our fifth week of sleep deprivation :). but OF COURSE, he is SO worth it!

we had a bath today, and here is the realization that baby chase did not inherit his mommy's straight hair. it is quite wavy - and we're looking forward to growing it out!

grandma likes to buy baby chase hats (among the MANY other things that she has generously showered him with)... and they make for some of the cutest moments.

he's got a little bit of growing to do, to fit into this one. also notice the double chin and no neck. we have a feeling this may soon turn into a triple chin...
